Dean j asked:
Some teachers (and students) may not be comfortable with this, but I feel that this would help gay teens be better educated (hence safer, in theory).

Absolutely NOT!

No. Sex is sex. You know the penis goes inside. Wear a condom. For women keep it clean. It’s not rocket surgery.

I don’t think they teach specific mechanics in sex ed, its not like drivers ed
besides, its not like there are vastly different moves for straights, gays, and lesbians, if there’s anything specifically heterosexual in what they’re teaching them (besides birth control) then they’re going into too much detail

yes.
BQ: talk to gay people that you trust about it

We don’t have Sex Ed at my school. Instead, it’s available over at a community college during the summer. But yes, gay sex for sex ed!
May 17th, 2009 at 3:51 am
Yes definately.
BQ: I dont know, I think i just knew? Lol

Yes, and gay and lesbian family studies should be included in Home Economics or any other “family” oriented class.

As long as the parent has the option to elect out of the curriculum for their kids, I have no objection. In Michigan, many of the more controversial topics, a parent has the option to review the materials before it is taught, and has to sign a consent form to allow the children to be taught the information.
In our family, for instance, when it came to HIV/Aids education, we found out what was being taught, and then talked with our kids. Topics like these we prefer to teach the kids ourselves. (And my husband uses an anatomy book to teach the kids on sex ed and reproduction).

I got my info online.
Eventually all schools will have to include homosexual relations in their programs or be sued for misinforming their students.

I hope so, but then they have to remain it “sex ed/gay sex ed”
Because definition of sex is between a male and a female
They should because people should know how to protect against stds and diseases
how to defend yourselves and more

a lot of people would squirm at the idea of talking about butt sex, gay or straight butt sex doesn’t matter, just the idea of talking about butt sex would make’em squirm so don’t count on that ever happening any time soon. lol! I’m gay so I can say that

Yes! It would be so helpful!
BQ: “logistics” from my imagination. Safe (girl/girl) sex from Kyle D on Y!A LGBT.

I don’t entirely blame my school for not having it in the curriculum, as a large majority of my class was straight. But they should teach safe-sex techniques for all forms of sex (just a simple “just because you can’t get him pregnant doesn’t mean you can go without a rubber” will do), and have some sort of resources for gay teens to find out in ways other than the internet.
Since most of the teachers teaching sex ed are straight, they can speak from personal experience on a lot of things, but not on gay sex. So it really comes down to, they don’t know what they’re talking about, so they don’t.
I think they should have some sort of resources should a student ask about it.

Not really gay sex, but homosexuality and bisexuality in general…it would not only teach LGBT kids to be safer, but it would most likely make people more accepting of us because they would be taught that we’re born with our sexuality as a trait and it isn’t “against nature” as some people may say…
BQ: Other LGBTs, and the internet…

My feeling is that it should not be taught. This is not because I don’t think teens should be informed, because they really should. I say no because it would give boat loads of ammunition to people that hate gays. They constantly say in their arguments that gays are trying to promote an agenda and actively recruit members. Part of our so called agenda is to introduce gay teachings to children.
So, for the present, I would say we’re not quite ready. The dirty details of sex aren’t taught in sex ed anyway. To learn about gay sex on your own, there are resources in public libraries and bookstores if you can muster the courage to check them out or purchase them. You can also ask a trusted gay friend.

Safe sex educated would include ALL forms of sex. This has nothing to do with sexual orientation because anyone can participate in oral, anal, vaginal, etc sex.

I think that sex education should cover it briefly. The challenge is that religions also dictate to our schools which makes bringing up this topic difficult. Regardless, if they are talking about sex and ways to practice it safely, the rules are the same. When you touch genital to genital and there is penetration, there should be a condom worn. If there is oral sex, then a condom or dental dam should be used. STD’s, HIV/AIDS is the same. So really in many ways sex is sex and differentiating between hetero and homo may not be that necessary.
I learned how hetero sex worked in Biology class. We saw a video on childbirth and they showed an xray picture of a straight couple having sex . The video focussed on the genitals where you could watch the penetraition & intercourse. I kind of already knew it worked this way, but this was my first visual. I think this was a good way to understand.

Yes, most definitely. Same-sex sexual education should be available in schools for everyone; it breaks down barriers.
BQ: My dad told me when I was around 12 or 13 and I asked what the term “bisexual” meant. He gave me huge lecture on sex.

It’s sex isn’t it?
June 17th, 2009 at 1:58 am
My shcool teaches ittt, mind you i live in nz and curriculums are allways going to differ
June 19th, 2009 at 4:48 pm
I have to agree with waiksguy, the time is not yet. Eventually, it will be taught and won’t be thought of any more than straight sex today, but that’s a long way off.
I hope that it soon becomes an optional seminar for those that want it and whose parents approve.
The seminar would be better than the explicit gay book I learned from (exciting but not too realistic) over 45 years ago. I guess you could say that I learned it as I experienced it. Also, if I had a positive presentation of homosexuality, I wouldn’t have wasted decades coming to terms with myself, and wouldn’t have had a mental breakdown.

Absolutely! Knowledge is power.
